SATISFACTION IN MERCY!

“Oh, satisfy us early with your mercy, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days!” (Psalm 90:14).

Be satisfied in the grace given by God to you. If so, you will rejoice for the whole of your lifetime. The divine grace will descend on you just like how the snowdrops slowly descend on the green grass in the early morning. Jeremiah who tasted the divine grace writes happily “They are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23).

Many people always murmur over the shortcomings they experience but they never thank God with satisfaction over the numerous good things God has given them graciously. Paul the Apostle had a thorn in his flesh. He prayed to God thrice for getting it cleared.

Paul the Apostle said, “And He (God) said to me, “my grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (II Corinthians 12:9). Since he knew that the presence and grace of God were with him during times of infirmities, he never got disappointed while facing the infirmities.

Once, a devotee was caught in an accident, just when he was about to leave for Africa to minister. After the accident, his leg had to be amputated. His friends and relatives not only discouraged him but also requested him to drop the plan of going to Africa to do ministry. But the devotee opted for an artificial leg and departed to Africa to do God’s work.

There some barbarians caught hold him and dragged him towards the dense part of a forest. The man pleaded to his level best but the barbarians did not relent. They were stubborn in their sole aim of feeding the man. The leader of the barbarians ordered his companions that the legs had to be eaten that day while the hands and other parts were reserved for the next day. Accordingly, when they attempted with the sword to cut off the leg, they were unable to believe what was in store for them.

The reason is that they had not seen an artificial leg made of wood and this terrified them. This made them think that the man was a divine personality and this thought made them shiver in fear. Not only that. They also came forward to listen to the Gospel preached by the missionary. Only then the man came to realise why God had admitted that accident to happen some years ago. Dear children of God, never forget that the grace of God will support you even amid your infirmities. The gracious God will never let you down.

To meditate: “Indeed now, your servant has found favour in your sight and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life” (Genesis 19:19).
