SCRIPTURE IS THE LIGHT!
“For the commandment is a lamp and the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life” (Proverbs 6:23).
Solomon the wise categorically says that ‘law is the light.’ David beautifully reiterates “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” When you roam about like a sheep not knowing the right way to go, the Scripture gives you the light and leads you in the path of God.
Imagine a ship caught in a severe storm. It is a time of darkness and the raging waves keep dashing against the ship. The sailors fear that the ship may sink. The storm intensifies and tosses the ship here and there. The sailors were helpless without knowing the right direction to steer up the ship.
In this situation, if the sailors could see the light coming out from a distant lighthouse, how much joy and relief it would bring to their hearts! Will they not try to rudder the ship towards the lighthouse so that they can get into the safety?
Many a time, the storm blows and the sea becomes turbulent in your life too. You struggle without knowing which way to proceed. It becomes a necessity for you to firmly take some important decisions. Your heart begins to long, to know what the will of God is, what His way is and which path will enable you to receive the blessings of God. During such situations, it is the Word which provides you with the light.
Dear children of God, when you read the Scripture, pray “Lord, teach me the way I should go.” God will definitely give His Word to you and lead you wonderfully. “...the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes” (Psalm 19:8).
In England, when a person takes charge as a king, a sceptre will be given in his hands and a Bible will be given as a gift saying, “Glorious king, we are giving you the Bible which is the most precious one in the world. It has wisdom, light and also the royal laws. This is the one which contains the Word of God.” Only after receiving the Bible, the person will be vested with the power to rule the nation.
Dear children of God, the Scripture provides light both to the great kings and the poor. It provides light both to the literates as well as the illiterates; both to the wealthy and the poverty-stricken. It has no discrimination
To meditate: “The entrance of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple” (Psalm 119:130).
