THE DESIRE OF THE RIGHTEOUS!

“…the desire of the righteous will be granted. The desire of the righteous is only good” (Proverbs 10:24, 11:23).

The Scripture says, “And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God” (I Corinthians 6:11). If you too had been made righteous your desires will also remain as the desires of the righteous.

What could be a great desire of the righteous? He would desire to see God, speak to him, Asaph the Psalmist says, “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Those who have tasted the love of Calvary cannot have a better wish or desire either in this world or in Eternity. David writes, “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple” (Psalm 27:4).

His desire was not only on God but also in His church. Will you also draw close to the altar of the church? Will you be satisfied with the goodness of the church? God who grants the desires of the righteous will also fulfil your desires.

Wisdom was the desire of Solomon. The Lord appeared to Solomon in Gibeon and said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” (I Kings 3:5). Solomon who had been anointed as the King when he was too young, did not seek extended lifespan or wealth but sought a discerning heart with which he could distinguish between right and wrong. Apart from giving him the wisdom, God also gave him wealth and glory which he had not even sought.

To witness the glory of God was the only desire of Moses. “Please, show me your glory” (Exodus 33:18). God knew the desire of Moses and willed to show him a portion of His glory. Moses witnessed the glory of God.

What was the desire of Elisha? He wanted to inherit a double portion of the spirit which Elijah had in him. As desired, that gift of Spirit was given to Elisha. That enabled Elisha to perform double the time of miracles which Elijah was able to do. Dear children of God, place all your desires before God who makes you righteous.

To meditate: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:1, 2).
