GLADNESS IN ANXIETY!
“Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad” (Proverbs 12:25).
When it is said that anxiety makes the life of a man depressed, no further description is required. You also might have come across thousands of such experiences. Once a philosopher said, just like how God is called ‘Almighty,’ the anxiety remains as ‘all destructive.’
The verse cited above provides an alternate medicine for anxiety to you. “A good word makes it glad.” To be more precise, it can be said, “The good words of Jesus Christ alone will clear your worries and make you happy. Read the words of Jesus Christ with all concentration. A harlot was shivering in fear of death and Jesus told her with love, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more” (John 8:11). On that day itself, her life became free of worries and filled with joy.
When a father came to Jesus with worries over his son, Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives” (John 4:50). Thus the son was saved and the worries were cleared. When you are surrounded by worries, take the Bible and read the good words of Jesus Christ. Those words have been written only to comfort you. The Scripture says, “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?” (Mathew 6:31).
Paul the Apostle learnt a sweet lesson through these verses. What is that? It is nothing but, “I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content” (Philippians 4:11). That is the secret of happiness. To be content in all situations is the beauty and greatness for the children of God. Yes. Contentment alone will provide mental joy.
Paul the Apostle says, “I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need”(Philippians 4:12). The proverbs are small in size but Solomon the wise speaks of the secrets of happiness in many instances. To be content is a continual feast (Proverbs 15:15). A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance (Proverbs 15:13).
A man with a merry heart will be liked by many. A merchant with a smiling face will sell all his goods very quickly. Even the patients will prefer to visit a doctor with a smiling face for treatment. Dear children of God, how essential it is for you to be with a smiling face as you have the responsibility of winning souls for God.
To meditate: “…you shall rejoice in all to which you have put your hand, you and your households, in which the Lord your God has blessed you” (Deuteronomy 12:7).
