NEW SONG!
“He…set my feet upon a rock and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth” (Psalm 40:2, 3).
The heart of David was one of ecstasy and also it was a one to praise God always with a thought over all the good things done by Him. After saying “He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps,” he rejoices saying, “He has put a new song in my mouth. Praise to our God.”
This is a song neither created by the musical experts of the world nor given by the angels of heaven. David says that God Himself gave this song. Yes. It is a song of praise. What a sweet song it is!
When a man comes nearer to Christ, He turns anew his entire life; makes a new covenant and gives a new heart; places a new Spirit in his heart and shows him the new mercy. Further, he also gives a new song. Yes. Our God is one who makes everything new.
Since God provides new experiences every day, taste His new grace and sing the new songs. David says, “Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth” (Psalm 96:1). “Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvellous things” (Psalm 98:1). “Sing to the Lord a new song and His praise in the assembly of saints” (Psalm 149:1).
We can find many new songs in the book of Revelations. The songs of the angels could also be seen there. Songs of those who have been redeemed are also there. Most of them are the songs of victory. Those who have successfully completed the life in the world and reached heaven, sing the new song and glorify the Name of God who gave them the victory. “And they sang a new song, saying: “For you …. have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth” (Revelation 5:9, 10).
Those new songs are not only the songs of victory but also songs of Salvation. Simeon sang a beautiful song of Salvation when he took Jesus, the child up in his arms. He sang the song saying, “For my eyes have seen your salvation” and we read this in the second chapter of the Gospel written by Luke.
The Psalmist says, “… you shall preserve me from trouble; you shall surround me with songs of deliverance” (Psalm 32:7). Dear children of God, never forget the good things done by God to you. Sing new songs to him. Describe His miracles in your song.
To meditate: “The Lord was ready to save me; therefore, we will sing my songs with stringed instruments all the days of our life, in the house of the Lord” (Isaiah 38:20).
