IN THE LIFE OF CHRIST!
“Then the …angels came and ministered to Him” (Mathew 4:11).
When Jesus Christ came to the world, He came in the form of a slave wearing humbleness setting aside all His glory, majesty and greatness. He was with flesh and blood as we are. He was “….made a little lower than the angels” (Hebrews 2:9).
All the Gospels of the Scripture indicate that angels offered service to Jesus Christ all through His life. At the time of the birth of Jesus, the angels appeared before the shepherds on a field and sang enthusiastically. They praised God and said, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14).
When the angels knew that King Herod was planning to kill all the children, they appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you” (Mathew 2:13). Further, when king Herod died, the angel again appeared to Joseph who was in Egypt and asked him to go to Israel along with the child and its mother.
When Christ finished His forty days of fasting, the tempter tested Him. After this incident, the angels came and attended on Him. How comforting and joyful the services of the angels would have been to Jesus Christ in that situation! Jesus Christ did not say no to the angels when they came forward to serve Him (Mathew 4:11). The Scripture says that when Jesus Christ was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, an angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him (Luke 22:43).
When the time for Jesus Christ to Resurrect arrived, an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and rolled back the stone from the entrance way and sat on it (Mathew 28:2). His appearance was like lightning and the guards were unable to even look at his face. But Mary Magdalene and the other women were able to speak to him freely.
When Jesus Christ Resurrected and ascended to heaven, the angels appeared to the disciples and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). Dear children of God, Jesus Christ will return with the angels, their cheer and the sound of the trumpet. On that day, you will meet Jesus Christ, all His angels and you will rejoice and praise Him.
To meditate: “And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other” (Mathew 24:31).
